Ice-cream ‘potong’- what a delicious old-style delicacy.. a simple ice-cream with only one flavour (red bean, corn, etc) and rectangular in shape. No chocolate layering, no extravaganza shape and taste. Just a Traditional, Simple, Satisfying with of course a happy ending kind of end-of-story thingy. I just had it last nite, corn-flavour with a bunch of people- my beloved wife, in-laws, grandmother Tok Chek, Cik Nun, Ayah Ngah, Arif & Amir. All 9 of us. NINE my favourite number in fact. And this is my fouth day i’m spending my week long holidays at Pasir Mas, Kelantan. So, what’s the story behind the ice-cream potong? Take a deep breath first and please do kindly think:-
a- when is the last time you have a light chat with your parents, sitting around together laughing and just talk all sort of things from grandson funny stories to Royal politics?
b- how many times in a month you visit your parents and spend time with them? (my interpretation of ‘spending time with parents’ is at least stay at your parents house for at least half-a-day)
c- did you really appreciate seeing and having a light chit-chat with your parents? By the way, instead of viewing the monthly ‘visit to parent’ as an obligatory sort of thing, please re-think and feel the joy of having the conversation with our parents (including our in-laws) as this may well be the last conversation with would have with them.

Ais krim potong bukanlah kegemaran saya. Malahan, kalau nak diambil kira kebanyakkan makanan pun bukan kegemaran saya. Saya makan untuk meneruskan kehidupan ini. Walaubagaimanapun, kata- kata Bun memang menyentuh hati saya.
